「アップク、チキリキ、アッパッパア……アッパッパア……」
　お下げを埃でお化粧した女の子達が、道の真中に輪を作って歌っていた。
“Appk, chikiriki, appa pa....appa pa pa....” some girls with their pigtails covered in dust were singing in a circle in the middle of the road.

アッパッパアアアア……という涙ぐましい旋律が、霞んだ春の空へのんびりと蒸発して行った。
“Appa pa paa...” a teary melody was wafting slowly into the hazy spring sky.

　男の子等は繩飛びをして遊んでいた。
Boys were jumping rope.

長い繩の弦が、ねばり強く地を叩いては、空に上った。田舎縞の前をはだけた一人の子が、ピョイピョイと飛んでいた。
The chord of a long rope was slapping the ground and going up in the air persistently. A child with a handwoven kimono undone in the front was jumping nimbly.

その光景は、高速度撮影機を使った活動写真の様に、如何にも悠長に見えた。
The scene looked really leisurely like a movie shot with a high speed camera.
