The COVID testing system in Japan is very confusing.

日本のコロナ検査の仕組みは非常に紛らわしい。

As for the healthcare insurance covered tests, there are two general options.

健康保険が適用される検査については、一般的に二つある。

The first one is a free test at a drug store.

一つ目は、薬局での無料検査。

It became free of charge, which was lately legalized to facilitate sluggish testing in Japan after intense criticism from some of the public.

これは、いくつかの世論による激しい批判の後に、日本における停滞する検査を促進するために法制化されて、無料になった。

You can get either PCR or quick antigen test there.

薬局での検査では、PCRか抗原検査が受けられる。

Another option is to go see a doctor who is authorized to practice testing.

もう一つの選択肢は、検査を行うことが認められた医者に見てもらうことだ。

Most of medical expenses are covered with the insurance, testing fee included, depending on the judgement of the doctor.

ほとんどの医療費は保険適用され、医師の判断次第で検査料も含む。

The situation with regards to COVID testing in Japan looks to be finally taking the right direction after two years of the pandemic, however there is a catch.

日本におけるコロナ検査の状況は、パンデミックが始まって二年、遂に正しい方向に向かっているように見える。しかし、実は落とし穴がある。

They set some requirements for you to get a test.

検査を受けるのに必要条件が設けられている。

As for drug store COVID testing, you must not have any cold like symptoms.

薬局でのコロナ検査については、受ける人はいかなる風邪の症状があってはならない。

In other words, you are not eligible for testing if you have any of the typical symptoms of a cold such as sneezing, having a runny or a clogged nose, coughing or a high fever.

つまり、典型的な風邪症状、例えばくしゃみ、鼻水鼻詰まり、せき、高熱などがあると検査を受けさせてもらえない。

If they observe any of these symptoms, you will have to go see a doctor.

もしこれらの症状の一つでもあれば、医者に診てもらわなければならない。

And next, when you go to an authorized clinic, if your symptoms are only something like sneezing, clogged nose or coughing, what will likely happen is that they won’t test you because you don’t have a continuous high fever.

そして次に、認可された医院に行くときに、もし症状がくしゃみ、鼻詰まりとか咳のようなものだけだったら、長く続く熱がないからという理由で検査されないことになりがちだ。
