英語日記 夏休み明けの学校再開について

The Japanese ministry of education basically avoided the responsibility to make decisions about whether students should go back to school or not after the summer break, and left it up to each local government and schools.

日本の文部省は、夏休み明けに学生たちが学校に戻るべきか否かを決定する責任を基本的に放棄して、それぞれの自治体と学校に判断を委ねた。

Responding to that, some local governments decided to extend the summer break by a week or so, until the end of August, but I haven’t heard any schools call off classes for the next term.

これを受け、ある地方自治体は、8月末まで1週間程度、夏休みを延長することを決めた。しかし、来学期を休校にするという学校があったかは自分は聞いていない。

My local government allegedly decided to let school open mostly without any restrictions (they say that they will make the greatest effort to set preventive measures against the COVID infections, though).

自分の自治体は、聞くところではほとんど規制無しに学校を開くことを決めた(コロナ感染防止策最大限の努力を払うということではあるが)。

The board of education in the city says in a statement something like it’s paramount to secure the opportunity for children to learn healthily, and thereby, considering the fact that the majority of infections have been happening inside households, they must avoid school closures.

市の教育委員会の声明では、子供たちが健やかに学ぶ機会を保障することが重要であり、また、大半の感染が家庭内で起こっていることを考慮し、休校は避けるべきである、という類いのことが言われている。

My question is “what kinds of people could think that cramming over 30 children into a small classroom is securing healthy learning opportunities to them when the delta variant is spreading exponentially everywhere in the city with no hospital beds?”.

自分の疑問は、「デルタ株が市の至る所に爆発的に広がり病床もすでに無いという時に、30人以上の子供を狭い教室に押し込むのが、子供たちに健やかな学びの機会を保障することだとどんな人たちが考え得るのだろうか」というものだ。

Not only Tokyo or Osaka suffer the severe shortage of hospital beds and medical workers but also my city does now.

深刻な病床不足と医療関係者不足に苦しむのは東京や大阪だけではなくて、自分の住む市も同じである。

And the medical resources here might be tighter than in a big city.

さらに、ここの医療資源は大きな都市よりもさらに困窮しているかもしれない。
