英語日記 今年の夏は特別

During this summer, my family and I kept trying to do something special for my oldest son’s birthday which was today.

この夏の間、家族と自分は、今日の長男の誕生日に向けて何か特別なことをしようとずっとしてきた。

We finished it with a very tasty birthday cake that we bought from a famous cake shop in the city.

町にある有名なケーキ屋さんで買ったとてもおいしい誕生日ケーキでこの日を締め括った。

The first birthday event was the two days of digital detox.

最初の誕生日イベントは二日間のデジタルデトックスだった。

For the two days after my summer break started, four of us, as a family, refrained from all the digital devices such as phones and PCs, and spent the days together playing board games and taking a long walk.

自分の夏休みが始まった後の二日間、家族4人で、電話やパソコンなど全てのデジタル機器の使用をやめて、一緒にボードゲームをやったり長い散歩に出掛けて過ごした。

During that period, we went to eat yakiniku for the first time in a long time.

その間に、久しぶりに焼肉を食べに行った。

That was right before the serious uptick of covid cases began in my city.

それは自分の住む市でコロナ感染者の深刻な増加が始まる直前だった。

For the second, we had the first, and small, birthday party at my parents’.

二つ目のイベントとして、両親の家で、最初のちょっとした誕生日パーティーをやった。

We decided to get together because both of my parents had gotten vaccinated early this month.

両親が今月初めにワクチン接種したので集まることにした。

We had yakiniku again as well as delicious sashimi. It felt special for us to have a get together after a long time.

再び焼肉とおいしい刺身を食べた。久しぶりに集まることができて特別な感じがした。

My sons were excited about staying over.

子供たちは泊まりで盛り上がっていた。

As for the birthday gift, I gave him some comics of Jojo’s bizarre adventure.

誕生日プレゼントとしては、長男にジョジョの奇妙な冒険のマンガをあげた。

They were of Stone Ocean series.

ストーンオーシャンのシリーズだ。

We had already had other series and my sons were obsessed with them.

家に他のシリーズもあって、子供たちはジョジョに夢中だ。

They looked busy reading the comics all the time.

いつもマンガを読むのに忙しそう。

Actually, I feel like this summer has been more eventful than usual years.

実のところ、この夏はいつもの年よりもイベントが多い気がする。

I think that was partly because of the pandemic.

パンデミックということもその理由かもしれない。

We wanted to enjoy days together as much as possible.

できる限り一緒に楽しみたかったというのはある。

And we also decided to not let my children go back to school even though their schools planned to open like a normal time after the summer break, which might make this summer more special for my sons.

それと、夏休み明けに普通の時のように学校は始まるようだけど、自分たちは子供を学校に行かせるのはやめることに決めた。この決定により、子供たちにとってこの夏がもっと特別なものになるかもしれない。
