empollonの英語とか学習帳

このブログは僕の英語学習の内容や進捗、特に翻訳練習を記録するために始めました。ついでに、面白い人たちとの新たな出会いがあったら、なお嬉しいです。This will be to keep a record of my English practice progress. If I can get to know new interesting people through any interactions here, that’s also nice

英語日記 夏休み、日本の自称専門家たち

Today, my 9 day summer break has started. I don’t have a lot of plans in particular, but I like the idea of having this long break.

This afternoon, I’ll be going out a little bit or reading at home. I’ve been reading this book for a long time which is still far from end. It’s about time for me to focus and finish it during this break.

At night, I’ll make ramen for dinner. Before or after that, I’ll go set a bite trap to catch beetles at a park and later go to swim at a pool with my family.

Tomorrow, there will be three skyp calls for language exchange. After that, I have an appointment at a dentist on Tuesday and on 11th, my family and I are going to visit my parents. In order for us to eat together, I bought face shields. It would be an unusual meal where most of us are wearing them.

Speaking of the pandemic situation, Japan has been facing the biggest surge so far of the cases although there are still only few deaths. In the meantime, there are several self proclaimed experts who write about the pandemic on the internet, clearly downplaying the situation in Japan. They eloquently claim that because there haven’t been so many deaths and severe cases in Japan as in some other countries, it’s absurd to waste so much money for preventive measures against the infections. And the government seems to be along the same line. They are trying to urge people to move around through the notorious GoTo travel campaign as well as GoTo events campaign that will start at the end of this month.

Everything is unsure. Japan might have immunity to the virus or not. But Imo, it’d be too early to be so judgmental about it at this point. Especially, those experts that are spreading their theories of how Japanese people are exempt from it might be totally wrong in the light of further studies about the virus. To my view, they might overly rely on the past stats since the beginning of this year, which might not be a sufficient amount of data to decide anything.

So, I just keep my guard up and ask my family the same thing.

In the meantime, there are several self-proclaimed experts who write about the pandemic on the internet, clearly downplaying the situation in Japan. <-- To give more of your negative opinion about the experts, use "" around 'experts'. We often do this to show our disdain.

corrections:

Japan might have immunity to the virus or not. <-- Does this idea connect to the previous sentence, if so it would be best to make them into one sentence.

But Imo, it’d be too early to be so judgmental about it at this point.

corrections:

But, IMO, it's too early to call at this point. <--- "To be judgmental" doesn't make sense here considering the context.

You make good points. People should be more cautious. Better safe than sorry.
