Some time later, Shakyamuni Buddha stood on the rim of the pond and, from between the lotus leaves covering the surface of water, he saw how things were going beneath the pond. Because under the pond, the bottom of hell was adjacent, the scenery of mountains of needles and the Sanzu river could be seen clearly through transparent water like crystals as if you are wearing hydroscope.

Just then, he saw a man called Kantada wriggling around with other sinners at the bottom of hell. Kantada was a master thief who killed people, set a fire, and committed a variety of evil deeds. However, he had done only one good deed, which was that when he was going in the woods one day, he saw a tiny spider creeping along the road.

At that moment, Kantada immediately lifted a leg to stomp it, but he suddenly thought, “No, no. This thing, even so little, is alive just like other creatures. It’d be too cruel to take its life thoughtlessly”, and then he changed his mind and let the spider go after all.

Corrections:

Some time later, Shakyamuni Buddha stood on the rim of the pond and, through the lotus leaves covering the surface of water, he could see all that was happening in the pond.

Because under the pond, the bottom of hell was adjacent, the scenery of mountains of needles and the Sanzu river could be seen clearly through transparent water like crystals as if you are wearing hydroscope.

Corrections:
